Devil's Brood Coming Tomorrow on BBC Two

Many thanks to my friend Anerje for sharing this great news on her blog: Professor Robert Bartlett begins a new series about the Plantagenets on BBC Two. The first part entitiled Devil's Brood is coming tomorrow, Monday 17th March. Check the link here. Because Henry the Young King's father, Henry II, was the first Plantagenet king, in the opening episode we're going to meet Henry the Young King's tempestuous family and- hopefully- Henry himself. Robert Bartlett is Wardlaw Professor of Medieval History at St Andrews University, Scotland and author of a must-have book, England Under the Norman and Angevin Kings 1075-1225. I wrote about the book and the Young King here. Hopefully, Henry's Polish scribe will be able to watch the episode where she lives :-)

  1. It's only in 3 parts - ridiculous if the series goes up to Richard III. I'd suggest at least 6 parts. The Young King must surely get a mention.

    1. Now, that you pointed it out, Anerje, I'm rather sure he will NOT get a mention :-( Three parts only... Too bad.

  2. I really hope I can get to watch it here in the US. Plantagenets are my very family.

  3. Mine too, Marsha! I hope that if not now, I will be able to watch it on YouTube some day.

  4. Kasia, he did get a mention - his rebellion and his pitiful death scene. BBC most be going Plantagenet crazy, as there's a programme on William Marshal next week as well! Oh, and there was nothing new in the documentary that I'm sure you didn't already know, all a straight forward narrative.

    1. Thank you, dear Anerje, for letting me know ;-) I haven't been able to watch it so far, but I'm happy to hear he did get a mention after all. You see, as far as tthe Young King is concerned, no matter what they say, the important thing is that they DO say :-)

PS As for the William Marshal thing, I wonder whether it's a programme I've been told about the other day by the man responsible for its production. He contacted me to ask a few questions about my blog (about the images of the Young King, to be more precise). We'll see. Are you going to watch it?

  5. Anerje, I've just checked it! It is the very same production!!! How very exciting! The producent and director, Jack MacIness himself, wrote to me the other day. WOW! God! I can't wait to watch it!!!

Unfortunately, I will have to wait...
